China Rejects US Allegations
China has dismissed US warnings about maintaining trade relations with Russia. During a UN Security Council discussion on arms supplies to Ukraine, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative Geng Shuang rejected claims made by the US representative.
He clarified that China has not supplied weapons to Russia and maintains normal trade with both Russia and Ukraine. These relations comply with international laws, with no violations reported.
Criticism of US Stance
Geng Shuang criticized the US for its own ongoing trade with Russia while warning others against it. He questioned the US’s credibility in demanding other nations halt trade with Moscow.
He emphasized that the Ukraine crisis is at a critical stage, urging focus on ceasefire efforts and peace in Kyiv rather than blaming other countries.
US Concerns and Tariffs
The US has expressed deep concern over continued trade with Russia, believing it supports Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. It has repeatedly threatened heavy tariffs on countries like India and China for purchasing Russian energy.
The US imposed a 25 percent tariff on India and additional fines, signaling strict measures against nations maintaining trade ties with Russia.
Call for Peace
Geng Shuang stressed that scapegoating others is counterproductive amid the Ukraine crisis. He advocated for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and establish peace in Kyiv.
