INTERNATIONAL: Toshakhana Case: Imran Khan Handed Another 17-Year Jail Term
A special court in Pakistan delivered a harsh verdict on December 20, 2025, sentencing former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to 17 years in prison each.
This ruling stems from the Toshakhana-2 corruption case involving misuse of state gifts.
The decision, announced inside Adiala Jail for security, adds significant time to Khan’s existing sentences.
Roots of the Allegations
The case focuses on a luxury Bulgari jewelry set gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the couple’s official visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021.
Prosecutors claimed the set, valued at over Rs 70-80 million, was undervalued at around Rs 5-6 million.
This allowed the couple to retain it personally by paying a fraction of its worth, bypassing proper deposition in the Toshakhana repository.
Trial and Sentencing Details
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand conducted proceedings in jail, convicting both on charges of criminal breach of trust and misconduct.
Khan received 10 years rigorous imprisonment plus seven more years, while Bushra got the same combined term.
Each faces a Rs.16.4 million fine, with additional jail time if unpaid. The court noted leniency due to Khan’s age and Bushra being a woman.
**Defense Outcry and Next Steps
Khan’s legal team called the in-jail trial unfair, alleging family and lawyers were barred access during the announcement.
They insist all procedures followed Toshakhana rules and plan an appeal in the Islamabad High Court.
The couple has denied wrongdoing, labeling the case politically driven.
