While Mani Ratnam, known for cult gangster films like Nayakan and Dalapathi, revisits familiar territory with Thug Life.
Unfortunately, this time the narrative feels outdated, predictable, and emotionally hollow.
What begins with a promising setup quickly derails into a bland and sluggish storyline.
- The first 10 minutes are gripping, especially the childhood episode of Amar and the shootout scene.
- However, the film then moves into routine territory, offering nothing fresh or innovative.
- The emotional core — the lost sister and the mentor-protégé relationship — lacks depth and fails to resonate.
The second half becomes increasingly difficult to sit through, lacking any real high points. Characters feel underdeveloped, and the plot becomes repetitive.
