Approximately 20 students from RTC Colony, Babu Jagjivanram, Pragati, and Housing Board Colony faced difficulties attending school due to lack of affordable transport. Many parents, unable to bear auto-rickshaw costs, stopped sending their children to school this academic year. The initiative directly tackles this issue, enabling access to education for these students.
Collaborative Funding for Auto-Rickshaw
Headmaster T. Devendar Raju, teacher P. Arunakumari, Amma Adarsha School Chairperson Rukmini, and mid-day meal coordinator Vankudothu Lakshmi collectively invested ₹25,000 to purchase a second-hand auto-rickshaw. An additional ₹5,000 was spent on repairs to ensure its functionality. This collaborative effort underscores their commitment to student welfare.
Free Daily Commute for Students
The auto-rickshaw, driven by Lakshmi’s husband Balaji, provides free daily transport for students from their homes to school and back. The teachers cover the diesel expenses, ensuring no financial burden on the families. This service has facilitated uninterrupted education for economically disadvantaged children.
Impact on School Enrollment
With 32 students initially enrolled, the school saw an increase of 10 additional students following the introduction of free transportation.
