NATIONAL: Sonia Faces Voter Scrutiny in Court Clash

A Delhi sessions court at Rouse Avenue summoned Congress leader Sonia Gandhi following a petition claiming her name appeared on a voter list prior to gaining Indian citizenship.

The hearing delved into alleged irregularities from the early 1980s. Notices also went to Delhi Police, demanding explanations.

Lawyer’s Core Allegations
Petitioner Pawan Narang contended that Sonia’s voter registration occurred before her naturalization, possibly involving forged papers.

He noted her name was added in 1980, removed, then reinstated in 1983, all pre-citizenship. Supporting documents were presented to back these claims.

Court Response and Next Steps
After review, the court mandated responses from the parties involved.

The matter stems from an earlier magistrate court rejection of an FIR plea for election law violations.

That decision was appealed here, leading to the current directives. Hearings resume January 6.
