TELANGANA: “Sigachi Explosion: CM Reddy Probes Safety Failures”

Tragic Explosion Prompts High-Level Inspection
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the Sigachi Industries site in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, on July 1, 2025, following a catastrophic explosion that claimed 36 lives. Accompanied by Ministers Sridhar Babu, Damodar Rajanarsimha, Vivek, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, he reviewed the incident with Industries Department officials and boiler directors. Authorities anticipate a potential rise in the death toll due to the severity of the blast.

Scrutiny of Safety Protocols and Boilers
The CM directed officials to confirm whether Industries Department and Boiler Directorate personnel inspected Sigachi Industries’ facilities, specifically the boilers involved in the explosion. He sought detailed findings on any identified deficiencies and inquired about recommendations provided to the management for enhancing boiler performance. Reddy emphasized the need for factual, non-speculative reports to ensure transparency in the investigation process.

Comprehensive Investigation Ordered
Reddy mandated a thorough investigation into the explosion, requiring a detailed report compiled in consultation with appointed experts. He instructed officials to examine the plant’s safety standards, operational permissions, and history of prior incidents at Sigachi Industries. The CM stressed that the report must avoid conjecture and provide actionable insights to prevent future industrial mishaps.

Focus on Worker Welfare and Compensation
The CM inquired about the availability of insurance coverage for affected workers and the skill levels of the facility’s workforce. He demanded clarity from Sigachi’s management on compensation decisions, holding them accountable for the tragedy. Reddy also ordered the collection of all relevant data on Sigachi Industries to assess compliance and operational integrity.

Preventive Measures and Humane Response
To avert future incidents, Reddy directed officials to conduct statewide industrial inspections and propose robust safety measures. He urged a compassionate approach in handling such crises, criticizing Sigachi’s management for their absence at the site 24 hours post-incident. Minister Sridhar Babu underscored the government’s serious stance, noting continuous monitoring by the Labor and Health Ministries.

Government’s Commitment to Accountability
The administration vowed to enforce stringent industrial safety norms, with Reddy announcing ₹1 crore ex-gratia for families of the deceased and job opportunities for kin of victims. The government’s proactive response aims to restore public trust and ensure accountability. DNA testing may be employed to identify victims as the investigation progresses.
