A catastrophic explosion at Sigachi Chemical Industries in Pashamilaram, Sangareddy district, on June 30, 2025, claimed 35 lives. The reactor blast triggered a fire, causing severe structural damage and injuring numerous workers. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue.

Grim Toll and Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Of the 108 workers present, 35 perished, with 11 critically injured and receiving ICU treatment. Rescue teams from NDRF and SDRF are clearing debris, suspecting additional victims remain trapped. The recovered bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.

Tragic Loss of Senior Leadership
The explosion claimed the life of Vice President LN Govan, whose vehicle was crushed upon entering the facility. The incident’s intensity demolished the production department building and damaged adjacent structures. Eyewitnesses reported workers being hurled up to 100 meters by the blast’s force.

Community and Official Response
The cries of distraught families echoed at the site, amplifying the tragedy’s emotional toll. A control room established at Sangareddy Collectorate (contact: 08455276155) is assisting victims’ families. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit the site today.

Industrial Safety Under Scrutiny
Minister Vivek announced the formation of an industrial safety committee to address workplace hazards. Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha noted that Sigachi, a 40-year-old manufacturer of microcrystalline cellulose, faces an investigation into the explosion’s cause. Authorities are prioritizing worker safety and accountability.

Victim Demographics and Medical Care
Most deceased workers hailed from Tamil Nadu and Bihar, with 33 survivors receiving treatment across various hospitals. The Labor Commission is probing claims of excessive working hours, signaling broader labor policy reviews. The incident has sparked calls for enhanced industrial regulations.
