NATIONAL: PM Modi Honoured with Ethiopia’s Highest Civilian Award

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone during his first bilateral visit to Ethiopia on December 16, 2025.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali conferred the country’s highest civilian honor, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia, on him.

The ceremony took place at the Addis International Convention Center, highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.

Modi dedicated the award to the people of India, calling it a reflection of shared civilizational connections.

This recognition underscores his role in fostering stronger India-Ethiopia partnerships.

Many sources note that Modi became the first global leader to receive this prestigious distinction.

Warm Welcome and Bilateral Talks
Upon arriving in Addis Ababa after his Jordan trip, Modi received an exceptionally warm reception.

Dr. Abiy Ahmed personally welcomed him at the airport and even drove him to his accommodation, a gesture symbolizing close friendship.

The two leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on areas of mutual interest, aiming to boost cooperation.

Strengthening Ties in Jordan
Earlier, in Amman, Modi wrapped up a productive visit to Jordan, focusing on economic growth.

He expressed optimism about doubling bilateral trade to $5 billion within five years.

Speaking at a business forum alongside King Abdullah II, Modi invited Jordanian companies to invest in India’s expanding economy.

Crown Prince Hussein also attended the event, joined by key Jordanian ministers.

The visit emphasized shared goals in trade, investment, and regional stability.

India and Jordan signed multiple memorandums of understanding during the trip.
