NATIONAL: Honeymoon Murder Case: Sonam Alone in Shillong Jail for Over a Month

Sonam’s Status Inside Shillong Jail
Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the high-profile Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder case, is currently lodged in Shillong Jail. It has been over a month since her arrest, and no family member has come to visit her. Jail authorities say that Sonam has shown no signs of remorse for the alleged crime.

Isolated Yet Under Surveillance
Sonam is being kept in a room near the warden’s office. Two other undertrial female prisoners share the same room. So far, she has not been assigned any prison duties. However, she remains under constant CCTV surveillance.

Maintains Silence in Custody
Though she interacts minimally with fellow inmates, Sonam has not disclosed anything about her personal life or the crime. Sources confirmed that she has not made or received any phone calls, and no one from her family has reached out to her either.

Background: Murder During Honeymoon
Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, belonging to a family in the transport business, married Sonam on May 11 this year. The couple went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20.

Soon after, both went missing, prompting concern from Raja’s family, who then approached the police. After 11 days, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep valley near a waterfall in Sohra, Meghalaya, with multiple knife wounds. This confirmed it as a case of suspected murder.

Arrests and Investigation
Police traced Sonam to Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she was found on June 7. Preliminary investigation revealed that she allegedly murdered her husband with the help of her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha. Both were arrested, along with two other accomplices. On June 11, all four were sent to judicial custody by the court.

Family Disowns the Accused
Following the shocking incident, Sonam’s family publicly declared that they have cut ties with her. Her brother stated that the family stands with the victim’s side and supports Raja Raghuvanshi’s grieving relatives.
