Hyderabad: Early Exams, New Rules: Telangana’s Inter Shift

Telangana’s intermediate students are gearing up for an earlier exam season in 2025, with the state government greenlighting a proposal to kick off tests ten days ahead of last year’s schedule. The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education has set February 25 to March 18 as the window for these crucial exams, catching the attention of nearly 9.5 lakh students.

This shift, coupled with syllabus tweaks, has educators and families recalibrating their preparations for a pivotal academic milestone.

Confirmed Dates and New Structure

Board Secretary Krishna Aditya announced the schedule in a recent media briefing, confirming that exams will span just over three weeks. The decision to start early aims to streamline academic timelines and give students more post-exam breathing room.

Alongside the dates, the board unveiled changes to the syllabus, particularly for first-year students, with a renewed focus on practical assessments.

The announcement has sparked a mix of anticipation and urgency among students racing to adapt to the new timeline.

Practical Exams Take Center Stage

First-year students will face practical exams conducted exclusively at government colleges, a move to ensure standardized facilities. Around 4.2 lakh students are expected to participate, mirroring previous years’ turnout.

  • Internal assessments carry 20 marks, while external exams hold 80 marks.
  • Practical schedules are being finalized to align with the main exams.
  • Labs will be set up to meet strict quality standards.

This shift underscores the board’s push for hands-on learning, aiming to better equip students for real-world applications.

Preparing for a Massive Turnout

With 9.5 lakh candidates registered, the board is pulling out all stops to ensure smooth operations. Exam centers will be spread across Telangana, with logistics fine-tuned to handle the large volume of participants.

Officials emphasized that government colleges hosting practicals will undergo thorough inspections to maintain fairness and safety.

For students, the early timeline means hitting the books sooner, while parents rally to support their teens through this high-stakes period.
