Significant Seizures from Cyber Fraudsters
Authorities have recovered Rs. 5,489 crore from cybercriminals, a testament to the government’s robust campaign against digital fraud. This was disclosed during a review of the Cyber and Information Security Division (CIS) led by Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Over 12 lakh mobile devices and 13.3 lakh bank accounts linked to illicit activities have been blocked, disrupting the operations of cybercrime networks.
Streamlining Victim Compensation
Minister Bandi Sanjay directed officials to simplify refund procedures to ensure swift restitution for victims of cyber fraud. The emphasis was on reducing bureaucratic hurdles to expedite financial recovery.
This directive aims to enhance public trust in the system by prioritizing victim support and efficient fund repatriation.
Focus on Vulnerable Groups
The minister underscored the need to address online crimes targeting women and children with heightened vigilance. He urged the deployment of specialized cyber commandos to tackle these priority cases effectively.
This focus reflects a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable demographics from the growing threat of digital exploitation.
Role of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre
Bandi Sanjay highlighted the pivotal role of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) as a nodal agency for coordinating efforts between central and state authorities. The I4C facilitates seamless collaboration to combat cybercrime comprehensively.
Initiatives like the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 Citizen Helpline were cited as critical tools in this endeavor.
Enhancing Public Awareness
The minister advocated for widespread awareness campaigns in local languages to educate citizens about cyber fraud risks. He emphasized the importance of proactive outreach to prevent victimization and foster digital literacy.
Additionally, he proposed adopting an e-zero FIR system, inspired by Delhi Police, to streamline cybercrime reporting across states.
