ANDHRA PRADESH: Bound and Brutalized: Husband’s Cruel Abuse of Wife

A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, where a man allegedly tortured his wife in a fit of rage.

The incident, involving severe physical assault, has ignited public fury and prompted swift intervention from authorities.

The viral video of the attack has amplified calls for justice, highlighting persistent issues of women’s safety in rural areas.

Victim’s Harrowing Background
Gurunath Balaji, a resident of Kalujuvvalapadu ST Colony in Tarlupadu mandal, is married with four children.

Four years ago, he moved to Chirala and began an extramarital affair, occasionally returning home to harass his wife and take her money under threats.

This pattern of abuse escalated dramatically on a recent Saturday evening, when Balaji arrived with his nephew and girlfriend.

The Brutal Assault Unfolds
Balaji forcibly took his wife to a house in Jagananna Colony, where he bound her hands with ropes and launched a vicious attack.

The assault left her with serious injuries, including broken legs, as she fought to escape.

Local residents discovered her in distress, and a public representative alerted the police, but the initial response was delayed.

Delayed Police Action and Viral Video
The victim reported that a constable arrived to photograph her injuries, yet no immediate case was filed against her husband.

A bystander captured video evidence of Balaji tying and beating her, which spread rapidly online by Tuesday.

Sub-Inspector Brahmanaidu explained the lack of formal action stemmed from no initial ccomplaint butassured a case would be registered based on the footage now available.

Women’s Commission Steps In
The Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission has strongly condemned the attack, taking suo motu notice of the incident.

Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja emphasized eradicating such atrocities and directed officials to ensure severe punishment for perpetrators.

This response underscores the commission’s role in addressing gender-based violence promptly.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for stronger safeguards against domestic abuse, with the community awaiting accountability.
