
ANDHRA PRADESH: BITS Unveils AI+ Campus in Amaravati: A Tech Revolution

The Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) is set to transform higher education with its ambitious AI+ Campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla announced a ₹1,000 crore investment to establish this cutting-edge hub, designed to accommodate 7,000 students by 2030.
Visionary Infrastructure and Sustainability
Spanning 35 acres, the campus will feature smart, sustainable infrastructure, incorporating green buildings and renewable energy. IoT and AI-driven services will create a digital-first environment, positioning it as India’s first AI-centric academic institution.
Interdisciplinary Academic Excellence
The AI+ Campus will prioritize programs in artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, computational linguistics, and cyber-physical systems. Specialized courses in generative AI, smart cities, and AI for healthcare will cater to emerging global demands.
Global Collaboration and Innovative Programs
BITS is forging partnerships with international universities to offer unique academic pathways, including a 2+2 undergraduate program and cotutelle doctoral degrees. These initiatives aim to prepare students for leadership in technology-driven industries.
Strategic Expansion Under Project Vistaar
Alongside the Amaravati project, BITS will invest ₹1,219 crore in Project Vistaar to upgrade facilities across its Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses. This will increase student capacity to 26,000 by 2030-31, enhancing research and learning infrastructure.
Architectural Inspiration and Regional Alignment
The campus, inspired by the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, will be located near Venkatapalem, with 70 acres allocated by the Andhra Pradesh government. This aligns with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for Amaravati as a hub for innovation.

Construction is underway, with architectural designs nearing finalization. The campus will commence admissions in 2027, marking a significant step toward positioning India as a global leader in AI education and innovation.
