International: Baloch Militancy Escalates with Deadly Attacks on Pakistan Army

Renewed Violence in Balochistan

Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province has witnessed a fresh surge in militant violence, with coordinated attacks by armed Baloch groups reportedly killing at least 15 Pakistani soldiers over the past few weeks. The incidents underline the fragile security situation in the region.

Areas Affected by the Attacks

The attacks were reported across multiple districts, indicating a wide operational spread.
Key locations include:

  • Kech district
  • Panjgur and Turbat regions
  • Surab area along the RCD Highway
  • Naseerabad district

Local media reported that the operations were carried out in both urban and highway zones.

Groups Claiming Responsibility

Three Baloch separatist outfits have claimed responsibility for the assaults:

  • Baloch Liberation Army (BLA)
  • Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF)
  • Baloch Republican Guards (BRG)

Each group issued separate statements detailing their involvement.

Kech and CPEC Route Incidents

According to a statement attributed to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, fighters attacked a Pakistan Army post in the Tejaban area of Kech district on December 23, killing two soldiers using automatic weapons and grenade launchers.

Two days later, a remote controlled explosive device was reportedly detonated on a military vehicle along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor route. This blast resulted in six soldiers being killed and four others injured.

Infrastructure Targeted in Turbat

Militants also targeted military infrastructure. On Sunday, a communication tower reportedly used by the Pakistan Army was destroyed in Turbat, further disrupting security operations in the area.

Surab Highway Attack

On December 27, BLF claimed responsibility for an attack on a military convoy escorting trucks linked to the Saindak mining project along the RCD Highway in Surab district. The group stated that five soldiers were killed during the operation.

Clash in Naseerabad

The Baloch Republican Guards reported a prolonged exchange of fire lasting nearly an hour with a Pakistan Army convoy in Naseerabad district on Saturday night. The group claimed that two soldiers were killed in the confrontation.

Continuing Insurgency Signals

The BRG stated that armed actions would continue until what it describes as the realization of Baloch independence. Security analysts note that such statements reflect the long running insurgency rooted in political grievances, resource control disputes, and demands for regional autonomy.
