ANDHRA PRADESH: Srushti Fertility Fraud: Letterhead Misuse Sparks Outrage
Escalating Scandal at Srushti Fertility Center
The investigation into Universal Srushti Fertility Center in Secunderabad has intensified, with fresh allegations of fraudulent practices involving the misuse of a prominent gynecologist’s letterhead.
Dr. Attaluri Namrata, the center’s manager, faces charges for using forged documents to administer treatments and deceiving patients seeking fertility services. The case, centered in Hyderabad, has drawn significant attention due to its scale and ethical violations.
Letterhead Forgery Uncovered
A distinguished Secunderabad-based gynecologist, Dr. Suri Shrimati, lodged a formal complaint with Gopalapuram police after discovering her letterhead was misused by Dr. Namrata to prescribe injections and medications.
The unauthorized use of her credentials prompted swift police action, uncovering a broader pattern of deceit within the fertility center’s operations. This revelation has further eroded public trust in the clinic.
Surge in Arrests
Gopalapuram police have apprehended nine additional agents from various states, including six women, bringing the total arrests in the Srushti Fertility Center case to 26.
These agents are accused of facilitating illegal surrogacy and financial extortion schemes targeting vulnerable couples. The accused are set to be presented before a judge for further legal proceedings.
Bail Granted to Key Accused
Dr. Vidyullatha, listed as accused A-16 in the case, was granted bail by the Secunderabad court and remains in Chanchalguda jail pending release formalities.
Her involvement, alongside Dr. Namrata and other staff, includes allegations of manipulating medical procedures and records. The bail decision has sparked debates over judicial handling of the case’s key figures.
Dr. Namrata’s Role and Prior Arrests
Dr. Namrata, the primary accused, was previously arrested alongside her son, Pachipala Jayanth Krishna, and other associates, including Dr. Nargula Sadanandam, for orchestrating a baby-selling racket under the guise of surrogacy.
The clinic, operating illegally since its license revocation in 2021, allegedly defrauded over 70 couples, charging between ₹10 lakh and ₹50 lakh for nonexistent or fraudulent treatments.
Systemic Fraud and Financial Exploitation
Investigations revealed that the clinic collaborated with an unlicensed entity, Indian Sperm Tech, to illegally transport reproductive materials across states like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Victims, including a Rajasthan couple who paid ₹35 lakh, discovered through DNA tests that their surrogate-born children were not biologically related, exposing the clinic’s use of falsified documents and unrelated donors.
Ongoing Probe and Regulatory Scrutiny
The Gopalapuram police, supported by health authorities, have registered eight FIRs against Dr. Namrata alone, with additional cases in Visakhapatnam and Guntur.
Raids uncovered unlicensed equipment, stored embryos, and forged records, prompting the Telangana Human Rights Commission to demand a comprehensive report.
The investigation continues to explore potential interstate networks and additional victims, including NRIs.
