ANDHRA PRADESH: Son Kills Mother, Ties Up Father Over Money Dispute in Proddatur

A quiet Sunday morning in Proddatur turned into a nightmare when a young man allegedly murdered his own mother over a denied cash request.

The incident in YSR Kadapa district has left neighbors reeling and sparked urgent conversations about family strains in tough times.

Uppaluru Lakshmi Devi, a dedicated schoolteacher, became the victim of her son Yashwanth Kumar Reddy’s rage, highlighting the dark side of unmet expectations.

Family Roots and Rising Tensions
Lakshmi Devi, 52, and her husband Vijayabhaskar Reddy called Sriramnagar home, a modest corner of Proddatur.

As a teacher at ZP High School in nearby Eshwar Reddynagar village, she embodied quiet strength, even as a person with disabilities.

Vijayabhaskar, once in private work, now faces unemployment’s bite, adding quiet pressure to their days.

Their son, Yashwanth, a B.Tech graduate from Chennai three years back, chased dreams in Hyderabad.

Job hunts mixed with film industry hopes kept him afloat on his mother’s monthly support for rent and basics.

That lifeline snapped when she couldn’t stretch further, igniting a fire that traveled 400 kilometers home.

The Deadly Dawn Confrontation
At 7 a.m. on October 5, Yashwanth arrived unannounced, his frustration boiling over into shouts.

Lakshmi Devi had wired Rs.3,000 just weeks prior, but his fresh ask for Rs.10,000 met a firm no. Words turned to blows; he shoved his father into a bedroom and locked the door, muffling pleas from within.

In a chilling escalation, Yashwanth grabbed a vegetable knife and slit his mother’s throat, blood staining the floor.

He dragged her body to the veranda, then returned inside, flipping on the TV to watch songs as if nothing had shattered.

Her cries had pierced the air, drawing worried locals who pieced together the horror.

Swift Police Response and Aftermath
Neighbors alerted authorities, and Third Town Police Station’s CI Venugopal led the rush to the scene.

Officers arrested Yashwanth on the spot, showing no resistance, and freed Vijayabhaskar from his locked room.

Lakshmi Devi’s body went for postmortem, confirming the brutal end.

A murder case now unfolds under investigation, probing deeper into Yashwanth’s state of mind.

Early reports hint at possible mental health struggles amid jobless drift.

This tragedy underscores how financial woes can fracture even the closest bonds, urging society to spot the warning signs before they erupt.
