Among the deceased, 32 hailed from Karur district itself, including women and children who had waited hours for a glimpse of their leader.

Chief Minister’s Swift Response
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin flew into Trichy late Saturday and rushed to Karur Government Medical College Hospital.
He met with officials, paid respects to the fallen, and consoled the injured, stressing that the tragedy would stay above politics.
Stalin assured the public that a one-member commission, led by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, would deliver a thorough report to guide future steps.
“We must learn from this to prevent repeats,” he told reporters, underscoring accountability.

Justice Jagadeesan visited the scene Sunday, gathering details from witnesses and planning interviews with survivors on Monday.
Her inquiry aims to pinpoint lapses in crowd management amid reports of delayed arrivals and surging crowds.
In a show of solidarity, traders in Karur shut down 15,000 shops Sunday, honoring the victims with a day of quiet reflection. The gesture highlighted the deep community bonds strained by the loss.
Legal Actions Against Party Leaders
Police have filed charges against four TVK officials, including general secretary Bussi Anand, Karur West district secretary Mathiyazhagan, and Nirmal Kumar, over alleged security shortcomings.
Speculation swirled about a possible arrest for Vijay, prompting extra protection at his Chennai home.
Meanwhile, TVK has petitioned the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court for a deeper probe into state and police oversights.
Governor R.N. Ravi has also requested a detailed government report on the mishap.
Compensation Pledges and a Bomb Hoax
Vijay, visibly shaken, announced Rs. 20 lakh per family for the deceased and Rs. 2 lakh for the injured, calling it a small gesture amid irreplaceable grief.

Adding tension, an anonymous email Sunday night warned of a bomb at Vijay’s Neelangarai residence.
A bomb squad swept the property but found nothing, easing immediate fears in an already volatile atmosphere.
