Amaravati: Guntur District Faces Surge in COVID-19 Cases, GGH Establishes Specialized Outpatient Unit
Escalating COVID-19 Cases in Guntur
A recent uptick in COVID-19 cases has sparked concern in Guntur district, with two new positive cases confirmed within Guntur city limits. Dr. Vijayalakshmi, the District Medical and Health Officer, reported these developments, noting that the virus, previously confined to areas like Tenali and Undavalli, has now spread to the urban center. This expansion has heightened public anxiety, prompting swift action from health authorities.
Immediate Medical Response
The two individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 have been transferred to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur, where they are receiving treatment under close medical supervision. To curb the spread of the virus, health officials have implemented rapid response measures, including enhanced testing and isolation protocols. The situation remains under close monitoring to prevent further transmission.
Specialized Outpatient Unit at GGH
To address the rising cases, GGH has established a dedicated outpatient (OP) unit near its casualty department, specifically for COVID-19 testing and treatment. This facility is equipped to conduct diagnostic tests for at least 100 individuals daily, with all necessary arrangements in place to ensure efficient operations. The unit aims to streamline early detection and management of suspected cases.
Dedicated Isolation Ward
GGH has also set up a specialized isolation ward in its B-Class section, featuring 15 beds equipped with ventilators and a continuous oxygen supply system. Dr. Vijayalakshmi emphasized that this ward is designed to provide high-quality medical care to COVID-19 patients, ensuring their safety and recovery. The infrastructure reflects a proactive approach to managing the outbreak.
Public Health Advisory
Health officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical attention if they experience COVID-19 symptoms. Dr. Vijayalakshmi stressed the importance of avoiding complacency and adhering to preventive measures, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Public cooperation is critical to controlling the spread of the virus in Guntur district.
