Hyderabad: Congress Sweeps Telangana Village Polls Again
The ruling Congress party delivered a commanding performance in Telangana’s gram panchayat elections. Backed candidates secured a clear majority across all three phases, reflecting strong rural support. The final phase results solidified this trend on December 17, 2025.
Although contested without official party symbols, affiliations shaped the outcomes significantly. Congress emerged dominant in most villages, except Siddipet district where opposition held ground.
Final Phase Highlights Strong Turnout
In the third phase, covering 4,159 panchayats, Congress-backed winners claimed around 2,208 sarpanch posts. BRS followed with about 1,145, BJP secured 239, and independents took the rest.
Voter turnout reached 85.77 percent, with over 43 lakh out of 50 lakh eligible casting ballots. Women participated enthusiastically, often outpacing men in several areas.
Overall Results Across Phases
Across 12,727 notified gram panchayats:
- Congress-backed: Approximately 6,794 wins
- BRS-backed: Around 3,503 wins
- BJP-backed: Nearly 697 wins
- Others and independents: About 1,651 wins
Congress led in districts like Nalgonda, Khammam, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. The party celebrated this as endorsement of its governance and welfare schemes.
Peaceful Polling and Key Observations
Barring minor incidents, elections remained largely peaceful with tight security. Officials monitored via webcasting, praising smooth conduct by district teams.
New sarpanches’ oath-taking postponed to December 22 due to inauspicious dates requested by winners. This rural verdict boosts Congress morale ahead of future local body tiers.
