High Alert Mandate
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan emphasized the imperative for India’s armed forces to maintain constant vigilance, 24/7, 365 days a year. Speaking at a defence seminar at Subroto Park, New Delhi, on July 25, 2025, he underscored the need for perpetual operational readiness.

Operation Sindoor’s Ongoing Legacy
General Chauhan highlighted that Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, remains active. The operation neutralized multiple terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, significantly impairing six Pakistani airbases.

Evolving Warfare Paradigm
The CDS described modern warfare as entering a “third revolution,” termed “convergence warfare,” blending kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. This evolution integrates tactical, operational, and strategic domains across land, air, sea, cyber, and space.

Future Soldier Profile
Future Indian soldiers must embody a trifecta of skills: information, technology, and scholarly expertise. Chauhan envisioned “info-tech-scholar warriors” adept at navigating the complexities of multi-domain operations.

Countering Disinformation
During Operation Sindoor, 15% of military efforts were devoted to countering disinformation, underscoring the role of narrative control. Chauhan stressed deliberate, credible communication to maintain strategic clarity.

Indigenous Technology Push
The CDS advocated for self-reliance in defense technology, citing Operation Sindoor’s success with indigenous systems like the Akash and S-400. He warned that reliance on foreign technology undermines preparedness.

Strategic Outcomes
Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s ability to execute precise, non-escalatory strikes, forcing Pakistan to seek a ceasefire on May 10, 2025. The operation redefined deterrence by linking terrorism to state accountability.
