ANDHRA PRADESH: AP Cabinet Approves Universal Health Policy
Landmark Cabinet Decision
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, approved a transformative Universal Health Policy under the Ayushman Bharat-NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.
This policy aims to provide comprehensive health insurance to all 1.63 crore families in the state, irrespective of economic status.
The decision marks a significant step toward equitable healthcare access.
Universal Health Coverage Details
The policy guarantees free medical treatment up to Rs 25 lakh annually per family, covering 3,257 medical procedures across 2,493 network hospitals.
A hybrid model integrates insurance companies for claims up to Rs.2.5 lakh, with the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust covering costs from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs.25 lakh.
This initiative targets 1.43 crore low-income households and an additional 20 lakh families.
Streamlined Access to Care
A robust pre-authorization system ensures treatment approvals within six hours, enhancing efficiency in healthcare delivery.
The policy eliminates financial barriers, offering cashless services at both government and private hospitals.
This move aligns with national goals under Ayushman Bharat for universal health coverage.
Expansion of Medical Infrastructure
The Cabinet also greenlit the establishment of 10 new medical colleges under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, to be developed in two phases.
These institutions will be located in Adoni, Madanapalle, Markapuram, Pulivendula, Penugonda, Palakollu, Amalapuram, Narsipatnam, Bapatla, and Parvathipuram.
A request for proposal (RFP) has been authorized to initiate the process.
Broader Socio-Economic Impact
The Universal Health Policy is expected to alleviate financial burdens for millions, reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
The addition of medical colleges aims to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the state.
These measures are poised to enhance Andhra Pradesh’s healthcare ecosystem significantly.
