ANDHRA PRADESH: ACB Raids Sub-Registrar Offices Across Andhra Over Corruption Allegations

Andhra Pradesh’s Anti-Corruption Bureau launched a bold crackdown on Wednesday, targeting whispers of graft in the state’s land registration machinery.

Surprise raids swept through 12 sub-registrar offices, from the coastal buzz of Visakhapatnam to the southern reaches of Chittoor.

What they uncovered paints a troubling picture of cash-for-stamps and shadowy dealings.

Raid Roundup: Targets Across the Map
Teams fanned out to key spots, hitting hard where complaints piled up highest.

Visakhapatnam’s Pedagantyada, Madhuravada, and Jagadamba Center felt the heat, alongside Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.

Further south, Ibrahimpatnam in NTR, Narasaraopet in Palnadu, and Ongole in Prakasam joined the list, with Nellore, Tirupati, Sathya Sai, Annamayya, and Nandyal rounding out the sweep.

These unannounced visits aimed to peel back layers of routine operations.

Officials sifted through files and ledgers, hunting for tells of favoritism and foul play.

The scale underscores a growing resolve to root out rot in public service.

Cash Hauls: Bribes in Plain Sight?
Unaccounted money turned up in troubling amounts, fueling suspicions of everyday extortion.

In Bhogapuram, Jagadamba Center, Ibrahimpatnam, Ongole, Nellore, and Narasaraopet, sums from Rs 10,000 to Rs.75,000 surfaced.

ACB Director General Atul Singh flagged these as likely proceeds from illicit fees and under-the-table deals.

One officer in Ibrahimpatnam pocketed Rs.74,600 during the chaos, while a Renigunta office cleaner clutched Rs.6,500.

In Ongole, the frenzy peaked: Staff hurled wads from upstairs windows or stuffed them into washroom cubicles, only for sleuths to seize Rs.48,000.

Such desperation hints at a culture where payoffs are par for the course.

Flaws in the System: ‘Anywhere Registration’ Under Fire
Deep dives into records exposed cracks in the ‘Anywhere Registration’ setup, meant to streamline but now a loophole for abuse.

Properties on prohibited lists slipped through without collector nods, while bribe-dodgers watched their papers gather dust. Non-judicial stamp sales logs showed glaring gaps, too.

Document scribes and hangers-on bolted at the sight of badges in spots like Allagadda and Rajampet, abandoning laptops and sheafs of papers.

Private operators, moonlighting illegally in official spaces, added to the mess. It’s a reminder that tech promises fall flat without vigilant oversight.

Official Vow: Probe Deepens, Action Looms
Atul Singh addressed the uproar head-on, tying the operation to a flood of public tips.

“We’ve spotted real issues in the paperwork,” he noted, pledging a no-holds-barred follow-up.

Strict measures await the guilty, he added, while calling on citizens to report graft with solid proof.

Right now, experts pore over confiscated cash and documents, piecing together the puzzle.

This isn’t just about one day’s dash; it’s a signal that accountability might finally catch up to Andhra’s land game. Will it clean house, or just stir the pot?
