INTERNATIONAL: Bangladesh Unrest: Mob Attacks Rockstar Concert
A joyous event turned tense on Friday night, December 26, 2025, at Faridpur Zilla School in Bangladesh.
Thousands of students, alumni, and fans gathered for the closing concert of the school’s 185th anniversary celebrations, featuring iconic rock musician James, known as Nagar Baul.
Just minutes before the show was set to start around 9:30 pm, a group of outsiders tried to force their way into the restricted venue on the school grounds.
Sudden Attack and Injuries
Security and organizers blocked entry, prompting the group to hurl bricks and stones toward the stage and crowd.
Panic spread quickly as projectiles flew, injuring at least 25 people, mostly school students.
Students at the front resisted the attackers, eventually pushing them back. Singer James safely left the area under protection without harm.
Swift Cancellation Decision
With the situation worsening, police intervened to control the crowd. Around 10 pm, organizing committee convener Mustafizur Rahman Shamim announced the concert’s cancellation on orders from the local district administration for safety reasons.
Organizers expressed shock, noting full preparations were in place, but the motives behind the disruption remained unclear.
Wider Concerns Over Cultural Events
This incident adds to recent attacks on artists and cultural spots in Bangladesh, raising worries about growing threats to music and public gatherings.
Exiled writer Taslima Nasreen highlighted it as part of a troubling pattern targeting creative expression.
The school, founded in 1840, has long been a hub for education and culture in the region.
