New Delhi: Team India received a big boost ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup as several star players cleared their mandatory fitness assessments conducted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The list includes ODI captain Rohit Sharma and Test captain Shubman Gill, who recently recovered from a bout of fever.
Gill’s participation in the test was crucial, and with him now declared fit, he is set to rejoin the squad soon.
Alongside him, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma also successfully cleared the tests.
Other key names such as Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur passed their fitness evaluations, which included the Yo-Yo test and DXA scan to assess endurance and physical strength.
Interestingly, despite retiring from certain formats, Rohit Sharma actively took part in the test to ensure top fitness ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia in November.
Reports also suggest that Rohit might feature in practice matches for India A as part of his preparations.
Meanwhile, players like Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, who are currently playing in the Duleep Trophy, were exempted from these assessments.
However, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel remains under medical observation due to injury.
With multiple stars proving their match readiness, India’s squad looks stronger and well-prepared for the Asia Cup challenge.
