Movie Desk: As the Siva movie cycle chain origin takes the internet by storm, the legendary filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has revealed how the iconic scene came to life.
The cult classic Siva, starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, is set for a grand 4K re-release, and excitement among both old and new generations is sky-high.
In a recent interaction, RGV shared a fascinating insight, the roots of Siva trace back to Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon.
He recalled that during his early collaboration ideas with Nagarjuna, he had watched Enter the Dragon for the 15th time, and a specific restaurant fight scene caught his attention.
In that scene, the hero beats up a villain who harasses a woman, and then the villain returns with his gang to fight again.
That inspired me, RGV explained. “I simply replaced the restaurant setting with a college backdrop and that’s how Siva was born.”
He further shared the story behind the legendary cycle chain fight, a moment etched forever in Telugu cinema history.
The villains came armed with knives and rods. But the hero was just a regular student unarmed.
So I thought, what if he uses whatever he can find around him? That’s when I noticed a cycle nearby.
I made him pull out the chain and use it as a weapon and the audience went wild!
The now-iconic “cycle chain scene” went on to redefine on-screen action in Indian cinema.
RGV also mentioned the three-punch sequence featuring Nana Ji, which became another groundbreaking trend at the time.
With Siva returning to theatres in a remastered 4K version, fans are eagerly waiting to relive these adrenaline-filled sequences on the big screen once again.
The film’s timeless intensity, raw energy, and powerful direction continue to inspire Indian filmmakers even after 36 years.
