New Delhi: In a major political development, the Nicolas Sarkozy Gadhafi Case has shaken French politics as the former president was sentenced to five years in prison by a Paris court.

Sarkozy was found guilty of criminal conspiracy in connection with allegations that he received illegal campaign funds from Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi during his 2007 presidential election campaign.

While not all charges were proven, the court ruled that Sarkozy was guilty of criminal conspiracy.

His family members were present in court when the verdict was announced.

Sarkozy, who served as the President of France from 2007 to 2012, has faced multiple allegations of corruption throughout his political career.

The court also declared two of Sarkozy’s former ministers guilty, citing their significant role in facilitating financial transactions between France and Libya.

Sarkozy had previously appealed in related corruption cases, but the court confirmed that imprisonment is inevitable in this ruling.

This is not the first time Sarkozy has faced legal trouble.

He had earlier been convicted in another corruption-related case, and this new sentence in the Gadhafi funding scandal has further damaged his political legacy.

The verdict has created a political storm in France and sparked international debate, marking a critical chapter in French political history.
