Movie Desk: The OG ticket prices controversy has become the hottest topic in Telugu cinema and Andhra Pradesh politics as Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited film OG is set for a grand release on September 25 as a Dasara special.
While advance bookings have already started overseas and preparations are underway across Telugu states, the ticket pricing in Andhra Pradesh has triggered a storm.
The Andhra Pradesh government’s approval of higher ticket rates for OG has drawn sharp criticism from opposition voices, particularly YSRCP supporters, who question why Pawan Kalyan’s film should get premium rates.
On the other hand, Pawan’s fans are countering these arguments, pointing out that similar permissions were granted to Pushpa 2.
Adding to the buzz, the government has approved a special benefit show at 1 AM on the release day, with ticket rates fixed at ₹1,000 (including GST). Single screens are allowed to add ₹125 more, while multiplexes can charge up to ₹150 extra. These revised rates will remain in effect until October 4.
Interestingly, the same kind of approvals were given last year for Pushpa 2.
Even then, the benefit show ticket was capped at ₹1,000, though multiplex rates were higher than OG.
This highlights that both films received comparable permissions.
However, the steep pricing has divided audiences. While die-hard Pawan Kalyan fans are excited and willing to pay any amount to watch their favorite star on screen, common moviegoers feel the cost is becoming too heavy.
The controversy has now spilled into political debates and continues to trend on social media, with opinions sharply divided over whether these ticket rates are justified.
