Ongoing Investigation into Terrorist Activities
The Kurnool Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Koya Praveen, has confirmed an active investigation into potential terrorist camps in Rayachoti, Annamaya district. Following the recent arrests of Abubakar Siddiqui and Mohammed Ali by Tamil Nadu Intelligence Bureau (IB) police, local authorities have intensified their probe. The suspects, linked to the ‘Al Umma’ terrorist organization, are under scrutiny for alleged plans to execute bombings in three major Indian cities.
Seizure of Explosive Materials
Authorities seized approximately 50 pieces of equipment used for manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with explosives, from the suspects. Additional items recovered include ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil, gunpowder, and maps detailing railway networks and three major urban centers. The discovery underscores the gravity of the threat posed by the accused.
Ties to ‘Al Umma’ and ISIS Ideology
DIG Koya Praveen noted that ‘Al Umma’ is South India’s largest terrorist organization, sharing ideological similarities with ISIS. The investigation is exploring connections between the accused and local facilitators in Rayachoti. While no evidence confirms recruitment or training camps in the area, the probe remains focused on tracing the origin of the explosives.
Involvement of Family Members
Cases have been registered against the wives of the accused, Sheikh Saira Bhanu and Sheikh Shamim, for their potential involvement. Both were remanded to 14 days in custody and transferred to Kadapa Central Jail. Authorities are investigating whether family members were aware of or complicit in the handling of explosives.

The accused are believed to be technical experts with a history of involvement in terrorist activities, including the 2013 Malleswaram blast in Bengaluru.
