Telangana BC Bandh: Statewide Shutdown Chaos
Widespread Support Fuels Protest
Across Telangana, a bandh called by Backward Classes organizations is in full swing, demanding a fair 42 percent quota in local body reservations. Major political parties like Congress, BJP, BRS, CPI, CPM, TJS, and others have thrown their weight behind it, along with groups representing Adivasis, minorities, and students.
This united front highlights growing frustration over the High Court’s recent stay on the quota order. Emergency services continue uninterrupted, but most sectors have shut down in solidarity.
Demonstrations at Bus Depots
BC groups have staged sit-ins at district RTC depots, preventing buses from leaving. Leaders are actively blocking operations, leading to a near-total halt in public transport.
Shops and businesses have joined the bandh, showing broad community backing. Roads in many areas appear deserted as people heed the call.
Hyderabad Hit Hard by Disruptions
In Hyderabad, RTC buses remain confined to depots like Uppal, Chengicherla, and Kukatpalli, stranding commuters. Around 125 buses at Kukatpalli alone are idle, crippling daily travel.
Tensions flared in Dilsukhnagar, where leaders clashed verbally with police while blocking roads and depots. Congress and other party workers participated actively in these protests.
Key Leaders Join the Fray
In Secunderabad, Minister Konda Surekha and Cantonment MLA Ganesh teamed up with Congress activists for a dharna. BJP MP Eatala Rajender took part at Jubilee Bus Stand, amplifying the call.
Telangana BC Ikya Vedika leaders staged a sit-in at MGBS, halting bus movements. Similar actions unfolded in Warangal, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, and Vikarabad.
Peaceful Conduct Urged Amid Tensions
The DGP has appealed for a non-violent bandh, emphasizing calm. While mostly peaceful, isolated arguments between protesters and authorities have occurred.
This shutdown stems from the push to lift the court stay and implement the quota. It underscores the urgent need for equitable representation in local governance.
