The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming 241 lives with one survivor.
Commitment to Affected Families
Chandrasekaran expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and those injured, emphasizing Tata Group’s unwavering support. The company has pledged ₹1 crore (approximately $116,868) in compensation for each deceased passenger’s family and will cover medical expenses for the injured. Additionally, Tata Group committed to aiding the reconstruction of the B.J. Medical College hostel damaged in the crash.
Transparent Investigation Underway
International investigative teams from India, the UK, and the US, including India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), are probing the crash in Ahmedabad. Chandrasekaran assured full cooperation, stating, “We are committed to absolute transparency in uncovering the facts.” Both black boxes have been recovered, aiding the ongoing investigation.
Addressing Speculation with Patience
Acknowledging the surge of speculation surrounding the crash, Chandrasekaran urged patience as investigators work to establish the cause. He emphasized that while some theories may hold merit, premature conclusions could mislead. The Tata Group remains focused on ensuring an accurate and comprehensive inquiry without compromise.

The chairman underscored Tata Group’s foundational values of trust and care, vowing to uphold these principles despite the tragedy. “We will not shirk our responsibilities,” he affirmed, promising to communicate findings openly and act decisively. The conglomerate is also providing support through dedicated assistance centers at multiple airports.
A Lasting Impact on Tata Group
Chandrasekaran conveyed that the loss will remain etched in the company’s memory, shaping its resolve to prioritize passenger safety.
