NATIONAL: Surrender Shock: 10 Maoists Lay Down Arms in Chhattisgarh

A pivotal shift unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district as ten Naxalites, boasting a combined bounty of Rs 65 lakh, laid down their arms before security forces.

This group includes a high-profile figure long tied to one of the region’s darkest chapters.

The event signals mounting cracks in the outlawed CPI (Maoist) network, once deeply entrenched in south Bastar.

Veteran Commander Steps Forward
At the forefront stands Chaitu, also known as Shyam Dada, a senior member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee with a Rs 25 lakh reward.

For years, he steered the Darbha division, operating along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana frontier as one of the most elusive Maoist leaders.

His role in orchestrating the 2013 Jhiram Valley ambush, which decimated much of the state’s Congress leadership, cemented his notoriety among security circles.

This surrender marks a rare turn for someone so central to the insurgency’s playbook.

Officials view it as a testament to sustained pressure eroding the group’s inner core.

Cadres Follow Suit
Joining Chaitu are nine others, each bringing their own slice of the Maoist hierarchy to the table.

Key among them is Divisional Committee Member Saroj, alias Urmila, carrying an Rs 8 lakh tag.

The rest hail from the area and party ranks:

  • Bhupesh, alias Sahayak Ram
  • Prakash
  • Kamlesh, alias Jhitru
  • Janani, alias Raymati Kashyap
  • Santosh, alias Sannu
  • Naveen
  • Ramshila
  • Jayanti Kashyap

Together, they represent a cross-section of the outfit’s operational layers, amplifying the blow to its structure.

Pressures Mount, Resolve Crumbles
Relentless campaigns by the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters, and Central Reserve Police Force have worn down the militants, officials note.

Recent waves of high-ranking defections, alongside the state government’s persistent calls for reintegration, tipped the scales for this cadre.

The group voiced a clear intent to reenter civilian life during the formal handover to police and local authorities.

Such dynamics echo a broader trend this year, where coordinated patrols and outreach efforts have chipped away at Maoist strongholds.

South Bastar, long a hub of rebel activity, now glimpses a quieter horizon.

Rehabilitation Lights the Way
Under Chhattisgarh’s surrender policy, the ten will access tailored support to rebuild their futures, from financial aid to skill training.

This framework aims to foster lasting peace, turning former fighters into community contributors.

As one chapter closes, it invites reflection on balancing security with sustainable growth in vulnerable zones.

The move underscores a fragile yet forward momentum against left-wing extremism, though vigilance remains key.
