INTERNATIONAL: Russia Claims 2,500+ Ukrainian Soldiers Killed in 24 Hours

Heavy Casualties as Conflict Intensifies

Amid renewed diplomatic efforts, Russia and Ukraine have reported severe combat losses within the past 24 hours, marking one of the deadliest single-day exchanges in the ongoing war.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 1,430 Ukrainian troops were killed during its latest wave of coordinated attacks. The strikes reportedly targeted multiple locations around Kyiv and resulted in the destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles, missile systems, armored units, and artillery positions.

Ukrainian Military Reports Extensive Russian Losses

In a counter-briefing, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that nearly 1 million Russian soldiers have died since the beginning of the war in 2022. The figure includes 1,100 Russian casualties within the last 24 hours alone.

According to Ukrainian military data, Russia’s cumulative equipment losses include:

Ceasefire Negotiations in Istanbul

While hostilities continue, representatives from both nations convened for ceasefire discussions at Cihangir Palace in Istanbul. The talks, moderated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, focused on de-escalation strategies and conditions for a temporary ceasefire.

As of now, neither side has announced any tangible progress or agreements resulting from the dialogue.

Pre-Talk Strikes Escalate Tensions

Prior to the Istanbul talks, Ukraine initiated a high-impact offensive targeting Russian supply lines and defense positions. In a rapid countermeasure, Moscow launched a barrage of 472 drones, some traveling over 1,000 kilometers into Ukrainian airspace, marking one of the longest drone operations of the war.

This tit-for-tat escalation underlines the fragile and volatile state of the conflict, even as diplomatic channels remain open.

Uncertain Future for Peace Prospects

The sharp increase in battlefield fatalities, combined with record-scale military operations, casts a shadow over any immediate hopes for a ceasefire. Experts warn that without a significant reduction in active hostilities, diplomatic efforts may remain symbolic rather than effective.
