ANDHRA PRADESH: Pawan Kalyan Defies YSRCP Threats, Launches Rs. 1,290 Cr Water Mission
Confronting Political Intimidation
Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan has publicly condemned alleged threats of violence from YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders. He asserted that their reduced electoral success, securing only 11 seats in the recent elections, stemmed from their alleged intimidation tactics during their tenure. Kalyan challenged their belief in regaining power through coercive means, emphasizing his resilience against such threats.
Jaljeevan Mission Groundbreaking
On Friday, Kalyan laid the foundation for Jaljeevan Mission projects worth Rs. 1,290 crore in Markapuram, Prakasam district. Addressing a public gathering, he highlighted the severe drought plaguing the region, noting the health impacts of fluoride-contaminated water. The initiative aims to provide drinking water to 10 lakh residents across five constituencies within 18 months.
Funding Challenges and Solutions
Kalyan revealed that of the Rs. 26,000 crore allocated to Andhra Pradesh under the Jaljeevan Mission from 2019 to 2024, only Rs. 4,000 crore was utilized, with incomplete infrastructure projects. After negotiations with the central government, alongside Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, additional funds were secured to address water scarcity in Prakasam, Anantapur, Palnadu, and Srikakulam, requiring an estimated Rs. 86,000 crore.
Tackling Land Encroachment
During the event, Kalyan addressed the encroachment of Chennakesavaswamy Devasthanam lands in Markapuram. He urged Endowment Department Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy to take decisive action against the alleged encroachments by YSRCP leaders, emphasizing the need to protect sacred sites.
Strengthening Coalition Unity
Kalyan stressed the importance of mutual respect among the coalition partners—TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP—to ensure effective governance. He acknowledged the BJP’s role in securing Jaljeevan funds and Naidu’s governance expertise, while underscoring his own resolve to confront challenges. He advocated for 15 years of coalition stability to drive sustainable development.
A Call for Collaborative Development
Commenting on former minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy’s influence in Markapuram, Kalyan praised his political acumen and urged unity despite challenges in integrating new members. He emphasized collective efforts for Prakasam’s development, with participation from ministers, MLAs, and officials at the event.
Vision for Public Welfare
Kalyan reiterated that public welfare supersedes party or coalition interests. He called for restraint in response to provocations from former rulers, describing the coalition government as a nascent entity requiring nurturing for long-term progress.
