ANDHRA PRADESH: One Crore Signatures Submitted to Governor: Jagan Reddy

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led a strong protest against the state’s move to adopt a public-private partnership model for government medical colleges.

He presented petitions with over 1.04 crore signatures to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, highlighting widespread public opposition.

Jagan described the initiative as the largest scam in India’s history, warning it would block access to medical education for lower-income families.

Sharp Criticism of Current Administration
After the meeting, Jagan spoke to reporters and accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of several shortcomings.

He claimed officials are undermining the Aarogyasri health scheme and failing farmers on promises.

The leader pointed out that handing college management to private players while covering annual costs of Rs 120 crore per institution amounts to a clear misuse of public funds.

Party Efforts Culminate in Historic Campaign
Earlier in the day, Jagan gathered with senior YSRCP figures at the party’s Tadepalli headquarters.

He praised workers for gathering more than 1.04 lakh additional signatures beyond the one-crore target in just two months.

Calling it a true people’s drive, he flagged off trucks loaded with petition boxes headed to the governor’s residence.

Delegation Stresses Ongoing Commitment
Around 40 YSRCP leaders joined Jagan for the formal submission at Lok Bhavan.

Party members emphasized that the campaign started organically among citizens concerned about healthcare equity.

They vowed to keep pushing until policies safeguard affordable medical training and services for everyone.

Key concerns raised:

  • Risk of higher fees excluding poor and middle-class students
  • Potential decline in public health support systems
  • Alleged favoritism toward private operators
