Nationwide Fervor for Ganeshotsav
As India prepares for the vibrant Ganesh Festival, elaborate mandapams adorned with ornate Ganesha idols are set to captivate devotees. Temporary setups with grand decorations remain a hallmark of the annual celebrations, drawing millions across the country.
A national media report highlighted that a prominent Mumbai mandapam has secured a staggering Rs.474.46 crore insurance cover for this year’s festivities.
GSB Seva Mandal’s Legacy
The GSB Seva Mandal in Matunga, Mumbai, has been a cornerstone of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations for seven decades, marking its 71st anniversary in 2025. Renowned as the nation’s wealthiest Ganesh mandal, it has insured its celebrations for Rs. 474.46 crore, up from Rs.400.58 crore in 2024.
The increase reflects the rising value of gold and silver ornaments adorning the idol, alongside expanded coverage for personnel and infrastructure.
Comprehensive Insurance Breakdown
The insurance policy, underwritten by New India Assurance, encompasses multiple facets of the festival. Rs.375 crore is allocated for personal accident coverage for priests, organizers, assistants, and security personnel.
Gold, silver, and jewelry worth Rs. 67 crore are protected under an all-risk policy, a significant rise from Rs.43 crore in 2024 and Rs.38 crore in 2023, driven by soaring gold prices.
Additional Safety Measures
A Rs.2 crore policy covers fire and earthquake risks, safeguarding fittings, furniture, CCTV cameras, and other assets. Public liability insurance of Rs.30 crore protects devotees, pandals, and venues, with an additional Rs.43 lakh for the premises.
These measures ensure comprehensive risk mitigation for the five-day festival, scheduled from August 27 to 31, 2025.
Enhanced Devotee Experience
The mandal has introduced QR codes and digital live services to streamline devotee access and enhance convenience. Facial recognition cameras bolster security, complementing crowd management initiatives like elevated entry systems for puja donors.
Approximately 60,000 pujas and rituals will be conducted, with annadaan (sacred meal service) serving thousands on banana leaves, upholding spiritual traditions.
