Pulivendula: Political tension gripped Pulivendula as MP Avinash Reddy arrested before the ZPTC bypoll in Kadapa district.
The contest between the YSRCP and the TDP has turned intense, prompting the police to take preventive measures.
Early on Tuesday morning, Pulivendula police reached the residence of MP Avinash Reddy and took him into custody.
YSRCP leaders alleged that he was not even given time to freshen up. A heated exchange took place between the MP and the police during the arrest.
Along with Avinash Reddy, several other YSRCP leaders were also detained. At the same time, action was taken against TDP leaders as well.
TDP MLC Rangopal Reddy in Pulivendula and YSRCP state secretary Satish Reddy in Vempalli were placed under house arrest.
Police stated that these actions were taken to maintain law and order and to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
However, political leaders accused the police of making these arrests deliberately.
In Pulivendula and Ontimitta areas, a few more individuals were bound over.
Police said they were taking early precautions to prevent any clashes on election day.
With these developments, the election heat in the undivided Kadapa district has intensified.
Verbal duels and accusations between the two parties continue, leaving uncertainty over the direction the situation will take.
