INTERNATIONAL: Israeli Airstrikes Hit Gaza: 22 Dead, Hamas Targets Cited

Fresh Israeli airstrikes rocked the Gaza Strip on November 19, 2025, shattering a fragile calm just days after a UN endorsement of a US-backed peace plan.

Gaza health officials reported at least 25 deaths, mostly civilians, in attacks that hit both northern and southern areas.

The violence has reignited fears that hard-won ceasefires could unravel amid mutual blame.

Deadly Toll Emerges
The strikes claimed 25 lives, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, with medics rushing to pull survivors from rubble in densely packed neighborhoods.

Twelve fatalities occurred near Gaza City in the north, while ten more fell in Khan Younis to the south, Gaza’s civil defense agency noted. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as warplanes roared overhead late Wednesday, local time.

These figures mark one of the deadliest single days since the October 10 truce took hold, pushing the post-ceasefire death toll past 300.

Families mourned lost loved ones, many displaced and sheltering in makeshift spots, as aid groups warned of worsening humanitarian strains.

IDF Targets Militant Sites
The Israel Defense Forces described the operation as a precise response to gunfire from Hamas gunmen on troops stationed east of the “yellow line” in southern Gaza. No soldiers were hurt, but the incident prompted immediate retaliation against high-value targets.

Key strikes zeroed in on the commander of Hamas’s Zeitoun Battalion in Gaza City’s Zeitoun district and the group’s naval forces chief near Khan Younis.

An IDF spokesperson emphasized that the actions aimed to neutralize immediate threats without broader escalation.

“We remain committed to the ceasefire terms while defending our positions,” the statement read, underscoring operations tied to the truce’s security buffer zones.

Hamas Fires Back
Hamas condemned the raids as a “dangerous escalation” orchestrated to derail peace talks and resume what they call a campaign of destruction.

The group rejected Israel’s account of the initial shooting, labeling it a fabricated excuse for aggression. “This is Netanyahu’s bid to ignite genocide anew,” a Hamas official declared, vowing resilience against such moves.

Palestinian factions urged international mediators to intervene, highlighting the strikes’ timing right after the UN Security Council’s nod to a 20-point plan for disarmament and stabilization forces.

Hamas has dismissed the proposal as unbalanced, insisting on full Israeli withdrawal and rights protections.

Shadows Over the Ceasefire
The flare-up tests a truce born from exhaustive negotiations, now shadowed by rejected blueprints and simmering distrust.

With over half of Gaza still under IDF control per the deal, any misstep risks a full relapse into conflict.

Global observers, including EU diplomats, called for restraint to safeguard the slim hopes for lasting calm.
