NATIONAL: India Slams OIC Over Pahalgam Attack Statement

Strong Rebuke from India
India (Bharat) sharply criticized the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its statement on the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the OIC’s remarks “absurd” and accused Pakistan of manipulating the group to push an anti-India agenda.

The MEA’s response highlighted Pakistan’s history of supporting cross-border terrorism, rejecting OIC’s interference in India’s internal matters.

OIC’s Controversial Statement
On Monday, the OIC Group in New York expressed concern over the “deteriorating security environment in South Asia.” It attributed rising tensions to India’s “unfounded allegations” against Pakistan, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency.

The OIC condemned terrorism in all forms but rejected associating any country or religion with it, a stance India deemed misleading.

Details of the Pahalgam Attack
The April 22 attack in Pahalgam (Pahalgam) targeted civilians, including tourists, escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. India has consistently linked such attacks to cross-border terrorism supported by Pakistan.

In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and closed the Attari Check Post until Pakistan ends its support for terrorism.

India’s Countermeasures
India’s decision to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance underscores its firm stance against Pakistan’s actions. The closure of the Attari (Attari) Check Post further signals a tough diplomatic response.

These measures aim to pressure Pakistan to dismantle terror networks operating across the border.

OIC’s Role and Pakistan’s Influence
The MEA accused Pakistan of exploiting the OIC to issue statements that serve its narrative. India rejected the OIC’s attempt to question the facts of the Pahalgam attack and its cross-border linkages.

This is not the first instance of Pakistan using the OIC platform to target India, according to Indian officials.

Global Implications
The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan could impact regional stability in South Asia. India’s strong diplomatic actions signal a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.

The OIC’s statement risks further straining India’s relations with the group, as New Delhi continues to assert its sovereignty.
