ANDHRA PRADESH: Google’s Raiden Plans 1,000 MW AI Data Hub in Visakhapatnam
Major Investment Announcement
A Google subsidiary is eyeing a massive push into India’s tech scene.
Raiden Infotech India Private Limited has proposed building a 1,000 MW AI data center in Visakhapatnam, with a hefty investment of Rs.87,250 crores, equivalent to about $10 billion.
This move highlights growing interest in the region’s potential as a digital hub.
Ongoing Government Discussions
Company officials are in talks with state authorities about incentives and approvals.
The proposal outlines completing the first phase within two and a half years, aiming for operational status by July 2028. Clarity on subsidies and other support remains pending, but progress seems steady.
Strategic Site Selections
Raiden has pinpointed three locations in the Visakhapatnam district for the project, totaling 480 acres. These include:
- 120 acres in Adivivaram
- 200 acres in Tarluvada
- 160 acres in the Rambilli-Achyutapuram cluster
Construction could kick off as early as March 2026 if permissions come through soon.
Power Requirements and Sourcing
The data centers will demand a combined 2,100 megawatts of electricity to run smoothly.
The breakdown includes 465 MW for Adivivaram, 929 MW for Tarluvada, and 697 MW for Rambilli. Raiden plans to source this from local power providers, ensuring reliable operations.
Corporate Background
Singapore-based Raiden APAC Investment Holding Company holds the majority stake in the Indian entity.
As a subsidiary of U.S.-based Google LLC, it will handle funding for the venture. This setup ties the project directly to global tech giants.
Broader Context in Visakhapatnam
This isn’t the only big play in the area. Google is also set to establish Asia’s largest data center here with Rs.52,000 crores invested.
Plus, a Rs. 16,000 crore data center complex has already gotten the green light from the government, boosting local IT growth.
