EC Asserts No Formal Complaint Filed by Congress
The Election Commission of India has formally responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments about alleged irregularities in the 2024 general elections. In its statement, the Commission clarified that the Congress party has not submitted any official complaint regarding electoral misconduct or malpractice.
Despite public remarks raising suspicion, the Commission emphasized that without a written submission, no action can be initiated.
Evidence, Not Speculation, Required for Action
Reiterating its institutional protocol, the Election Commission stated that if there are concerns or doubts about the electoral process, the complainant must provide verifiable evidence. Suspicion or political statements in the media, the EC said, cannot substitute for the legal procedures outlined in the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act.

The EC reminded all stakeholders that India’s electoral system has well-established mechanisms to address disputes, including:
- Filing written complaints to the Commission.
- Challenging the results in the High Court or Supreme Court.
- Availing the observer and scrutiny channels during counting.
The Commission reaffirmed that the entire electoral process is subject to checks and balances that ensure fairness and transparency.
Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks Spark Institutional Rebuttal
Rahul Gandhi, in his recent public statements, hinted at procedural inconsistencies during the 2024 elections. However, the absence of an official complaint from his party prompted the EC to issue a strong rebuttal.
The Commission noted that making serious allegations without formal communication risks damaging public trust in democratic institutions.
