On Thursday, the sacred Indrakeeladri hill in Vijayawada came alive with devotion as Goddess Kanaka Durga appeared in a stunning glass bangle adornment. This special display marked the Bhagini Hastha Bhojana Parvadina, drawing crowds eager to witness the divine transformation. The vibrant setup blended tradition with a touch of everyday elegance, captivating visitors from near and far.
Gajula Alankaram Unveiled
The festival featured the iconic Gajula Alankaram, where the deity’s utsava murti on the sixth floor of the Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam was decked out alongside the main idol. Instead of gleaming gold, multicolored glass bangles created a mesmerizing effect, making the goddess look approachable yet awe-inspiring. This annual ritual highlights the community’s creative expressions of faith during the Navratri season.
Overflow of Devotee Offerings
Temple records show that devotees donated a staggering 431,932 glass bangles for the occasion. These colorful pieces formed intricate patterns, turning the adornment into a symbol of collective generosity. Special shipments from Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru added unique varieties, ensuring the display stood out with diverse hues and designs.

Around 300 dedicated staff members toiled for two full days to assemble the decorations into neat strands. Their meticulous work transformed simple glass bangles into a cascade of light, reflecting the festival’s spirit of unity and hard work.
