INTERNATIONAL: Another Blow to Iran’s Nuclear Program: Key Scientist Killed in Israeli Strike

Senior Iranian Nuclear Scientist Killed

Iran has suffered another major setback in its nuclear program. A top scientist, Seyyed Mohammad Reza Siddaghi Saber, was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike. According to Iranian state media, the attack occurred while he was at his parents’ residence in Astanah-ye Ashrafiyeh in northern Iran.

This is not the first personal loss for Mohammad Reza’s family. A few years ago, his 17-year-old son was also killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Involvement in Iran’s Nuclear and Defense Projects
Seyyed Mohammad Reza Siddaghi Saber held a crucial position in Iran’s nuclear and defense establishment. He led the Shahid Karimi Group, a division under Iran’s Organization of Defense Innovation and Research. This group is responsible for developing technologies related to explosives and has close links to nuclear weapons development.

The United States had earlier included him in its sanctions list, citing his involvement in projects related to nuclear explosives manufacturing and missile development.

Recent Strikes on Key Nuclear Facilities
Recently, a series of precision airstrikes targeted critical Iranian nuclear infrastructure, including facilities in Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz. These attacks reportedly involved 14 bunker-buster bombs and inflicted severe damage on Iran’s nuclear program.

The US has stated that these operations significantly weakened Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The latest killing of a senior scientist is expected to further delay Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Impact on Tehran’s Strategy
This development comes at a time when Iran is already under international pressure due to its controversial nuclear activities. The loss of a top nuclear mind is likely to impact ongoing research and development in the country’s defense and nuclear sectors.

The incident also highlights the continuing covert conflict between Iran and Israel, especially concerning nuclear deterrence and regional security.
