Busting the AI Job-Loss Myth

Forget the headlines warning of artificial intelligence wiping out livelihoods; a fresh report from global talent firm NLB Services paints a brighter picture for India’s tech workforce. Over 1,800 Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are ramping up AI hires, with current employment at 2.16 million professionals already leaning heavily into this space.

The study, Workforce 2.0 Reset – India’s GCCs Go AI-Native, draws from 321 GCC leaders across six cities and ten sectors. Conducted between July and October 2025, it forecasts an 11 percent workforce bump to 2.4 million by next year, soaring to 3.46 million by 2030. That means 1.3 million fresh opportunities, many for AI specialists.

Charting the GCC Growth Trajectory

Visualizing the expansion, the report highlights steady climbs fueled by AI integration. Current figures stand firm at 2.16 million, with projections signaling robust gains.

This upward curve underscores how AI isn’t replacing roles but reshaping them for innovation.

Urban Hubs: Tier 1 vs. Emerging Stars

India’s GCC landscape splits neatly between established metros and rising contenders. Bengaluru holds its edge with 30 new setups this year, yet Hyderabad surged ahead with 41, boasting 360 total centers and 310,000 jobs.

Hyderabad shines in AI readiness, with 70 percent of its GCCs armed with strong strategies versus Bengaluru’s 69 percent. Sectors like pharma, healthcare, and life sciences flock here, drawn by GenAI skills and automation investments.

Tier 2/3 Boom: Cost Savings and Fresh Talent

Shifting gears to smaller cities, 39 percent of GCC staff, or about 1.35 million, will work from tier 2 and 3 hubs by 2030. This decentralization promises hefty savings: 20-35 percent on talent costs, 30-50 percent on office upkeep, and 10-12 percent on employee relocations.

Spots like Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar are morphing into AI hotspots. Expect 715,000 net new jobs in these areas, blending local talent pools with lower overheads.

AI Prowess: India’s Global Edge

What fuels this? India’s AI talent scores a solid 2.8 on global indexes, outpacing the U.S. at 2.2 and Germany at 1.9. GCCs integrate AI-engineering, analytics, and compliance seamlessly, turning these centers into strategic nerve hubs.

Nearly 70 percent invest in Generative AI this year, with over 60 percent forming safety teams by 2026. Sachin Alug, NLB Services CEO, puts it plainly: Responsible AI doesn’t supplant human skills; it amplifies them for lasting enterprise value.

2025 Outlook: Centers on the Rise

Looking ahead, 85 to 95 GCCs could launch domestically next year, including up to 60 greenfield sites and expansions of existing ones. With 58 percent already past AI trials, the sector’s pivot to “AI-native” models signals a talent renaissance.

As these centers evolve, they challenge old fears, inviting workers to upskill in a landscape where tech creates more than it consumes.
